When I was in 6th grade I got my own room for the first time. It took a lot of convincing and proving but eventually my parents caved in. One of the best parts of having my own room was having my own closet. One closet all to me, all organized, made me feel like I all of sudden had more clothes.
The relationship you have with your wardrobe is personal, unique, and says a lot about you. However, often times we let it kind of get blown in the wind of life and filled with things we actually don’t like or need. There are also times when we forget to check on it or organize it to make it more accessible for us. But especially because most of us have more clothes than we actually wear I often practice and encourage others to “shop your own closet”. You will be surprised what good things you rediscover!
On the other hand, I get the urge to go shopping wanting to exploring thrift stores, vintage stores, and flea markets for all the secondhand goodies your heart desires.According to The Balance Small Business, the average person buys 60 percent more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long as 15 years ago, generating a huge amount of waste.
Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to get out there. Things like a virus pandemic can plague the world and have everyone stuck in doors for the foreseeable future. There has been encouragement from health professionals to practice social distancing limiting interactions with others will decrease the spread of the virus.
Since you can’t go out and shop like you normally would, I wanted to show you guys how you can triple your wardrobe without ever leaving your house and preparing you to walk out of “Rona Corona” better than when it started.
The key is in being able to TOUCH & SEE all your clothes. This is the time to organize your closet.
We often feel like we have a limited wardrobe because we think we have less clothes than we really do! Break that limited mindset and get to organizing. Take the time to organize your clothes, shoes, and accessories so you can seem them regularly (anytime you go to your closet).
I like to color coordinate my closet. It helps me have a good sense of what colors I have a lot or little of.
I also like to have all my shoes in my closet right by my clothes. This helps me see possible outfit combinations easier when going through my clothes.Once you organize all your clothes so you can TOUCH & SEE them at ALL times. Now you’re in a position to put different outfit combinations together.
Don’t always wear the same blouse, pants, and shoes combination; instead wear the blouse with a skirt and instead of shoes try sandals or sneakers. Mix up what outfit combinations you tend to put together.According to Huffington post, nine out of ten women own at least one item of clothing that they have never worn and true of only a third of men. This means that most women are leaving opportunities untouched right in their closet. You never even have to step foot out of your home, which is convenient with the coronavirus pandemic spreading across the world, to create something new!Despite the unprecedented times, this time is a great chance to get your wardrobe and closet ready for post-corona life. No one is sure what that looks like but we can start to proclaim what we want life to look like by dressing the part and using what we have right in our own closet.
I look forward to getting my wonderful secondhand pieces out of my closet for amazing trips like this New Orleans trip captured in these photos.
What is the first thing you will do to get ready for post-corona life?
An informative piece, and a great suggestion of something productive and important to do while we are at home during this time. I’m excited to spend some time curating my closet!
I’m happy to hear you found the information helpful! Making your closet your own can really change the whole way you approach getting dressed!
